April 30th at the Nile Country Club is the Northwest Junior Pipe Band annual dinner/concert and, of course, auction.

Many of you know about the band's trip to the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow last Summer, where they finished 6th.

Click on the below link to see their final performance on the Glasgow Green to get an idea of how good they are. If you saw this already, enjoy it again.

Plan on an evening of great highland pipes, highland dancers, fiddling, fireside "small" pipes, a chanter piece by our Pipe Band School, and even a bit of Cape Bretton step dancing - all by the band members.

Saturday, 30 April
Nile CC, Mountlake Terrace
5:30pm - about 10:00pm

April 11th Meeting Special Guest

4/8/2016

Join us on Monday, 4/11 and enjoy a presentation by the curator for the Flying Heritage Collection at Paine Field.

Cory Graff has lived in the Pacific Northwest his entire life. He grew up in Tacoma, his house was right under the flight path for McChord Air Force Base. Day and night, he'd see a seemingly endless stream of Lockheed C-141 cargo planes headed for the runways on the other side of Commencement Bay.

Cory graduated from the University of Oregon and soon after went to work for the Museum of Flight in Seattle. He did writing and research jobs for the exhibits department and later assisted in the creation and installation of large exhibits including The Boeing Story, Wings Over Hollywood, and 747.

In his own words, "...perhaps the most complex and rewarding project I helped lead was the World War I Gallery in the Museum of Flight's Personal Courage Wing. The sprawling layout covered 25,000 square feet and contained 18 aircraft. As well, there were extensive scenes to illustrate the era, such as a bomb-damaged French farmhouse and a curving of trench scene."

Please plan on attending Monday, 4/11 at 7pm.

Free concert brings big band swing, bebop, Latin, popular tunes, and more to Bellevue

The U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors will play a free concert Tuesday, April 5 at 7 p.m. in the Courter Family Athletic Pavilion on the Bellevue College (BC) campus.

The Jazz Ambassadors is the official touring big band of the United States Army. The 19-member ensemble has received great acclaim both at home and abroad performing big band swing, bebop, Latin, contemporary jazz, standards, popular tunes, Dixieland, vocals, and patriotic selections.

“This band is truly amazing. We are thrilled to host them on our campus,” said professor and Jazz Band Director Jim Sisko. “Bringing musicians of this caliber to Bellevue College is immeasurably beneficial for our current and future students and really points to the Eastside as a home for the arts.”

The band has appeared in all fifty states, Canada, Mexico, Japan, India, and throughout Europe. Notable performances include concerts at international jazz festivals in Montreux, Switzerland; Newport, Rhode Island; Toronto, Canada; Brussels, Belgium; and the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands. In 1995, the Jazz Ambassadors performed in England, Wales, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Czech Republic in commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of the end of World War II. The band has also been featured in unique joint concerts with major orchestras, including the Detroit and Baltimore symphonies.
