Legionnaires,
It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that Commander George Wells received orders from the Supreme Commander last night and had to weigh anchor and get underway reroute to life everlasting. I had the honor of spending an hour with him yesterday speaking about various experiences we had both enjoyed over the past years. Chief Wells had big plans for us, his shipmates at the Legion, and was looking forward to implement these plans this next coming year. Receiving these orders to get underway was surely a sudden surprise to the Commander but as a loyal Shipmate he did not hesitate to fulfill the Supreme Commander's request. As more information and arrangements are made I will keep you informed. George was looking forward to attending our gathering on the May 25th at the Post. Please keep Commander Wells and his loved ones in your prayers. American Legion Post 234 certificates of thanks were awarded to local businesses who provided items for the Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemorative Event on May 25, 2015 honoring Vietnam War and Era veterans and their families. Please remember to add these businesses to your favorites!
Plans call for three residential buildings on site and one community building that includes a common laundry and kitchen and offices for social services. Catholic Community Services of Western Washington developed the project on the site of a former trailer park.
A year from now, the small lot off Filbert Road will have permanent housing for 20 chronically homeless veterans with on-site services, including chemical dependency treatment, counseling, job placement and skills development.
