At the Mountlake Terrace City Council meeting last night, Arts Commission member Sally Buckingham and Library Board member Nan Darbous recognized military veteran and Mayor Jerry Smith for his service during the Vietnam Era with presentation of the official Commemoration lapel pin on behalf of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Mountlake Terrace American Legion Post 234. Both organizations are Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemorative partners.

In Accordance With Public Law 110-181 SEC.598; the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act authorized the Secretary of Defense to conduct a program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and "in conducting the commemorative program, the Secretary shall coordinate, support, and facilitate other programs and activities of the Federal Government, State and local governments, and other persons and organizations in commemoration of the Vietnam War."

Visit the official Commemoration site for more information:  http://www.vietnamwar50th.com/about/

Information shared with the City Council was the American Legion Post 234 display in the Mountlake Terrace Library lobby display case and the event on Sunday, 11/8 where local Vietnam Era veterans will be honored. The event is open to the public and City Council members were encouraged to attend.
