On Veterans Day 11/11/2015, a local business in Mountlake Terrace honored employees who served our country through military service with a lunch in their honor. Ten veterans who served during the Vietnam Era were presented with Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pins provided by Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemorative Partner American Legion Post 234.

The Northwest Junior Pipe Band participated in honoring US military on November 11th at Veterans Park in Lynnwood, Washington. Representative Rick Larsen and Mayor Nicola Smith were in attendance. Several Post 234 members will be participating in Edmonds Community College’s Veterans Day Celebration this year. The event will be held on Tuesday, November 10, at 10:30 AM in the college’s Black Box Theater.
The celebration is for the entire community, not just students, and veterans are especially invited to attend. Please wear your cover. The Black Box Theater is located near the south side of the campus; parking is available. Refreshments will be served at the conclusion. Please plan on attending the regular monthly member meeting tonight at 7pm. Come at 6pm for social time.

At the Mountlake Terrace City Council meeting last night, Arts Commission member Sally Buckingham and Library Board member Nan Darbous recognized military veteran and Mayor Jerry Smith for his service during the Vietnam Era with presentation of the official Commemoration lapel pin on behalf of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Mountlake Terrace American Legion Post 234. Both organizations are Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemorative partners.
In Accordance With Public Law 110-181 SEC.598; the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act authorized the Secretary of Defense to conduct a program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and "in conducting the commemorative program, the Secretary shall coordinate, support, and facilitate other programs and activities of the Federal Government, State and local governments, and other persons and organizations in commemoration of the Vietnam War." Visit the official Commemoration site for more information: http://www.vietnamwar50th.com/about/ Information shared with the City Council was the American Legion Post 234 display in the Mountlake Terrace Library lobby display case and the event on Sunday, 11/8 where local Vietnam Era veterans will be honored. The event is open to the public and City Council members were encouraged to attend. In preparation for Veterans Day 2015, members of the Edmonds Job's Daughters chapter planned and implemented a Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemorative display in the lobby of the Mountlake Terrace library. These talented ladies will also be helping with the event on Sunday, November 8th at 2pm at the American Legion Post 234 hall.
